    • Hazel Matzinger Moot, 88
of Northfield, Vt. and more recently of Beverly, Mass., died January 2, 2010, at her home at The Herrick House in Beverly. She was born on July 24, 1921, in New Glarus, Wisc., the daughter of Gottlieb and Rosina (Schiesser) Matzinger. Her husband of 62 years, Richmond "Dick" Moot, predeceased her in 2008. Hazel is also predeceased by her brothers, Herbert Matzinger and Richard Matzinger. Hazel graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1943 with a degree in Foods and Nutrition. She then served a one-year dietetic internship at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. Upon completion of her internship, she took a job as a Therapeutic Dietician at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn. With the birth of her three daughters, her career changed to become a fulltime wife and mother, a career to which she dedicated her life. After Hazel and Dick had raised their girls, Hazel took a job as a Therapeutic Dietician at Mary Fletcher Hospital (now Fletcher Allen). When the family moved from South Burlington to Northfield in 1971, she continued her career in dietetics at Central Vermont Medical Center. In December 1971, Hazel and Dick bought Moot Woodturnings, Inc. (previously Randall Wood Products) in Northfield Falls, which they owned and operated until they sold it in 1988, when they retired. Hazel was a member of the Board of Trustees of Northfield's Brown Public Library for many years, and served as Chair of the Library Trustees from 1987 to 1994. She retired as a Trustee Emeritus. Survivors include her three daughters and their families: Suzanne Moot and her husband, Peter Jones, of Milton, Mass.; Candy Moot, her husband, Chuck Nichols, and their daughter, Azalea Frank, of Montpelier, Vt.; and Heidi Moot Vancisin and her husband, Rick Vancisin, and their children Christopher and Dana Vancisin of Hamilton, Mass. A celebration of Hazel's life will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 10 a.m. at The Herrick House in Beverly, Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone wishing to make a contribution in Hazel's honor please do so to Northfield's Brown Public Library, 93 South Main Street, Northfield, Vt. 05663.
